4/11/09 - Only 6 of us, 2 of which thought they were only doing 40 some-odd miles, but missed wherever the turnoff was for that. Rob proved that with only a year and a half of riding under his belt, he's an animal (350 mile weeks haven't hurt). Shai was his usual pulling train despite being a bit under the weather. RJ continued to show the peak form he had at the Solvang Double. Jory and the other Jim proved game and rode very well despite going twice as far as they had expected (and Jory just had a knee replacement two months ago!). And I took solace in the fact that despite being the slowest descender because I'm so light, I can still outclimb them all! :-)

4/11/09- "...Fearless men, but few." Great to be in such company. What Jim Swarzman said. Only thing I can add is that he is indeed a monster on the hills! I almost caught him up on the trip back over Santa Susana, but my loud gasping for breath gave away my presence. He hit the afterburners and almost disappeared from sight. I only wish he would have at least pretended to be winded at the top! Jory put out one of the most heroic efforts I have ever seen. ~100 miles on a new knee replacement, unplanned at that. Never complained. Wow. He and Jim got crossed up when we didn't stop at the first scheduled rest point. That was where the two route variations split, and was to be their cue. Both were great gamers to carry on with the century. Shai contributed so much to the day, thanks for all the work! Little slow on the uptake, finally realized today the significance of RJ's jersey on Easter weekend. Sla'n agus beannacht leat!
