# Notes on What a Thesis is

- A thesis is:
 - A claim (not a list)
 - Debatable
 - Should catch a reader's attention
 - Living in the Introduction
 - Can be restated at the end **in a different way**

- Signs of a Weak Thesis Statement
 - Not Debatable
 - Too many details (not often the problem, though)
 - Not specific enough (too general -> not arguable)
 - Hard to distinguish

# Evidence Burgers for Body Paragraphs

- The **Top Bun**
 - Introduces what the paragraph is going to talk about

- The **Cheese**
 - Context for the evidence you will introduce

- The **Patty**
 - The evidence (the meat of the paragraph)
 - Should be the author's voice, but can also be a quote (with a page number citation)

- The **Tomato/Onion/Lettuce**
 - Restate the evidence
 - Make it easier for the reader to follow you

- The **Bottom Bun**
 - Analysis
 - "How does this evidence support the thesis statement?"
